PLEASE NOTE: Tall Ships Toledo is an outdoors, all weather event. Volunteers will be required to stand for the entire shift. All volunteers must be available for a minimum of TWO (2) SHIFTS. Indicate your availability with an X.

***On July 16th and 21st volunteers will be required to perform light labor, i.e. moving/lifting tables, bike racks, etc.***

Volunteer Facts and Information:

Volunteer Commitment – We sincerely appreciate your time and interest in helping us bring one of the largest, most unique and fun events to Toledo.

• You must be available for a minimum of two (2) shifts from July 16-21, 2003.
• This is an outdoors, all weather event.
• Volunteers will be required to stand during their shift.
• Some light labor (moving/lifting) may be asked of volunteers.
  

Volunteer Assignments – the Volunteer Coordinator will determine assignments to specific areas but
may include:

• Greeters/Information People – Welcome visitors, answer questions, help visitors with
  expectations of the event upon arrival, the “Ask Me” People of the event.
• Ticket Takers – Main entrance, these people will also be placing wristbands on guests.
• Crowd Control – help at the gates and ship lines. May be asked to help on the deck of a ship.
• Hospitality – Help with various duties from bus groups to receptions on deck/dockside.
• Parking – Help attend a few parking sites at various locations downtown – shuttle sites.

Specialized Volunteer Positions:

• Docents – You will be trained to answer questions about a specific ship in case you need to
  replace some crewmembers for lunch breaks or crew activities. This is a unique position - if you have an interest in history, ships, or sailing, this is for you. Please note - this is an on-deck
  position & requires standing. We will need you for several shifts throughout the week.
• Ship Liaisons – Will work directly with the ships throughout their stay in Toledo. A good working knowledge of Toledo & how to get around is helpful. You must be available all five days. A typical day includes meeting with the Captain or the First Mate, advising them of the days activities, helping a crew member find a dentist or Internet access, driving the cook to the supermarket for provisioning, and so on.
• Shuttle Bus Hosts – You will be the first event person visitors meet when boarding the shuttle buses. You will be riding the buses to/from parking sites & help answer questions about the
  event and Toledo. General knowledge of the downtown area is helpful.
